Defendant in Wrongful Death Case Adopts Girlfriend of Victim

- February 01, 2012

A judge in Florida ruled this week that the parents of a 23-year-old man who died in a 2010 car crash are entitled to information regarding the adoption of their son's adult girlfriend by the billionaire who allegedly caused the fatal crash.

Under the ruling, the attorneys for Lili and William Wilson, the parents of Patrick Wilson, may examine the circumstances surrounding the adoption of 42-year-old Heather Laruso Hutchins - the victim's long-time girlfriend - by John Goodman, the billionaire defendant in the Wilsons' wrongful death case.

Goodman allegedly ran a stop sign on February 12, 2010, causing their son's wrongful death, according to court documents.

The Wilsons' attorneys argued that Goodman adopted Patrick's girlfriend in an attempt to protect his assets in the lawsuit.

Goodman claimed the adoption was arranged in order to ensure the future stability of his family and his investments and is in no way related to the wrongful death case.
