S.C. Chemistry Lab Explosion Injures 5

- February 08, 2012

Five people were injured on Monday when a spill at a South Carolina State University chemistry lab triggered an explosion, officials said.

Police said 10-15 people were in the chemistry lab at the university's Leroy Davis Science Complex at the time of the blast.

A teaching assistant and four students were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The building reopened on Tuesday after hazardous materials crews finished decontaminating the lab.
