3 Best Motorcycle Courses in San Diego
If you own a motorcycle or are thinking about getting one in San Diego, you may have thought about taking a class. These three motorcycle riding courses in San Diego are perfect for riders, whether they are beginners just getting started or seasoned riders who want to brush up on their skills.
Do I Need to Take a Motorcycle Course in San Diego?
No, you do not need to take a motorcycle safety course in California to get your motorcycle license, but taking a certified course can let you skip the DMV’s riding skill test portion when getting your license, so the general recommendation is that all riders take the course. A certified safety course is mandatory for riders under 21 who want to get their motorcycle license.
1. Pacific Safety Center
Pacific Safety Center in San Diego offers a beginner’s course for novice riders with little to no experience on the road. The motorcycle safety course includes both in-class and on-bike instruction, and the course also offers motorcycles and helmets to students. The basic course covers the fundamentals of riding, including turning, cornering, and avoiding crashes.
The basic course is $425 per person over 21 and $395 per person under 21. Participants must wear a full-coverage DOT-approved helmet, eye protection, and full-fingered riding gloves.
2. San Diego Motorcycle Training
San Diego Motorcycle Training does exactly what the name implies. They currently offer their Begin2Ride basic course that consists of three, three-hour sessions. B1 is the first session and provides a basic introduction to motorcycles, including beginner techniques like posture, controls, and how to shift gears.
B2 is the second portion and continues instruction in foundational skills like stability, leaning, and steering. The B2 portion teaches skills that students can use for more advanced motorcycle techniques. B3 is the final section and focuses on putting together the skills in the previous two courses to control and ride a motorcycle on the road. You do not have to have a driver’s license or learner’s permit to take the course.
3. REVolution Advanced Motorcycle Training
REVolution Advanced Motorcycle Training offers motorcycle courses in San Diego for both new and experienced riders who want to improve their skills. The Master Your Motorcycle course is meant to help riders gain confidence and mastery in controlling their bikes. The curriculum includes instruction on slow riding, weaving, figure-8s, tight turns, and much more.
You can also sign up for private one-on-one lessons with a motorcycle instructor. Private lessons are recommended for riders who want to get their M designation on their licenses or new riders who want to become more adept at riding on the road. Instruction takes place on your bike, so you focus on learning its unique feel and handling.
