Lost Creek State Park and Lost Creek Falls, Anaconda, MT

The park is 6,211 feet above sea level and encompasses over 500 acres. The creek runs along the bottom of a narrow canyon. The canyon’s limestone cliffs and colorful granite walls rise as high as 1,200 feet above the creek. 

Lost Creek Falls is a spectacular 50-foot waterfall located in the northwest corner of Lost Creek State Park. Look for wildlife on the adjacent cliffs if you can take your eyes off the waterfall. You will often spot mountain goats and bighorn sheep lining the cliffs around the falls.

The park has a fee for use and features 21 overnight camping sites and three day-use sites. 

The Anaconda-Pintler Scenic Route

The first 64 miles of the Anaconda to Augusta motorcycle tour across the Pintler Mountains follows Montana’s Anaconda-Pintler scenic route. You will ride the northern shore of Georgetown Lake. A picturesque mountain lake resting in the Anaconda Mountain Range’s foothills offers exceptional trout fishing.

As you descend through Flint Creek Canyon and towards Flint Creek, you will begin to lose altitude. This section of the ride is enjoyable as you navigate a route filled with twists and turns. Along the way, keep an eye out for mining relics that remind you of the region’s past. 

At the bottom of the canyon, turn north through the beautiful Philipsburg Valley toward Philipsburg. You can reach the old trading post town of Philipsburg along the Veteran’s Memorial Scenic Highway. Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest surrounds the town.  

The business district in Philipsburg contains numerous shopping, eating, and lodging opportunities. The town renovated the business district’s buildings and maintained the charm of the 1800s. 

The area offers several ghost towns to explore, but before you go, check out the Ghost Town Hall of Fame located in Philipsburg’s Granite County Museum and Mine Exhibit. You may also visit Granite Ghost Town State Park, once the most productive silver mine on earth. You can also find active sapphire mines in Philipsburg that allow you to prospect!

Sculpture in the Wild International Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MT

Located on the last leg of the ride, Sculpture in the Wild in Lincoln, Montana, was selected as a Top 15 Road Trip Destination in the United States in 2022. It sits in the Blackfoot Valley, and sculptors receive invitations to create sculptures using only materials indicative of the region’s cultural and economic past.

After Lincoln, the ride concludes 55 miles down Montana Highway 200 east and US 287 north to Augusta. This part of the ride takes you alongside the Scapegoat Wilderness to Augusta.
