The motorcycling world is filled with stories of incredible speed, breathtaking stunts, and record-breaking achievements. Riders and engineers constantly strive to outdo each other as they set new motorcycle records that push the boundaries of what is possible.
Today, we highlight four of the world’s most notable motorcycle records, including the fastest motorcycle ever built and the longest motorcycle jump ever completed. These records are a testament to human ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Strap in and get ready to be inspired by these amazing motorcycle feats.
Fastest Motorcycle in the World Record
The Dodge Tomahawk is the fastest motorcycle in the world, capable of reaching top speeds between 350 and 420 mph. A concept vehicle from that has never been put into mass production, this extraordinary machine features an 8.3-liter V10 engine from a Dodge Viper, producing 500 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque. Its unique design includes four wheels for added stability and a two-speed manual transmission. The Tomahawk can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds, showcasing both its incredible speed and engineering. Because the Tomahawk is a concept vehicle, its capabilities are mostly theoretical, but it remains a remarkable engineering feat all the same.
Motorcycle Jump World Record
Alex Harvill set a remarkable world record for the longest motorcycle ramp jump on May 12, 2012. He achieved an astounding distance of 425 feet (129.54 meters) during an event in Royal City, Washington. Harvill’s jump surpassed the previous record by over 65 feet, making it a significant milestone in the world of motorcycle stunts. Tragically, Alex Harvill passed away on June 17, 2021, while attempting to break another world record at the Moses Lake Airshow in Washington. Harvill’s 2012 jump remains a testament to his incredible skill and daring as a motorcycle stunt performer.
Motorcycle Speed Record
The current motorcycle land speed record holder is the Ack Attack Streamliner, which achieved a top speed of 376.363 mph. Rocky Robinson set this record while riding the Streamliner on Sept. 25, 2010, at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The Ack Attack uses two turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa engines, producing over 900 horsepower. Its aerodynamic design and powerful engines have made it the fastest motorcycle on land, pushing the boundaries of speed and engineering.
Fastest Production Motorcycle
The Kawasaki Ninja H2R is the fastest production motorcycle in the world (meaning it’s the fastest mass-produced motorcycle available for the general public), with a top speed of nearly 250 mph. This track-only bike has a supercharged 998cc inline-four engine, producing an astonishing 310 horsepower. The H2R’s advanced engineering includes a lightweight trellis frame, fully adjustable suspension, and rider-focused assistance features such as traction control and anti-lock brakes.
