dirt bike, Colorado Motorcycle Trails - Centennial State Dirt

Colorado motorcycle trails offer endless opportunities to dirt bike fans. Magnificent nature, fascinating landmarks, and challenging terrain invite you to go off-road and explore Colorado along trails that stretch beyond paved roads.

So what are Colorado’s most impressive dirt motorcycle trails? Here are our top five picks.

Rampart Range

The Rampart Range, one of the most popular Colorado motorcycle trails, offers dirt bikers about 200 miles of riding through the spectacular Pike-San Isabel National Forest. Some routes were historically game trails and coach roads. The elevation of Rampart Range ranges from 6,500 to more than 8,500 feet.

The 30-plus designated trails in the range accommodate dirt riders of any skill or experience level, from beginners to pros. To reach the Rampart Range from Denver, ride south on Highway  85 to Sedalia. From there, Highway 67 west will take you to Rampart Range Road.

Taylor Park

Taylor Park is heaven for lovers of dramatic mountain scenery and off-roading. You will enjoy exploring the park’s 40 interconnecting dirt bike trails with varying difficulty levels, from the beginner-friendly Slaughter Gulch to the more advanced Timberline Trail and Star Trail.

If you are also a fan of fishing and river rafting, you can enjoy these activities on Taylor River, which runs through the park. You could spend a few days at one of the park’s campgrounds—just check whether you need to make reservations.

You can reach the park from Gunnison, CO. Ride about 10 miles north on Hwy 135 and turn east to County Road 742.

Bocco Mountain

The Bocco Mountain Recreation Area, located near Wolcott, offers riders 18 miles of challenging bike-only trails, along with some OHV routes also open to ATVs and jeeps. Spectacular views and exciting terrain make Bocco Mountain a must-try for bikers.

Bocco Mountain closes from the start of December through April. The summer months are the best time to explore this area and enjoy its gorgeous scenery.

Head to Bocco Mountain from Wolcott by Highway 131. After approximately 2.5 miles, turn to Milk Creek Road and look for signage leading to the recreational area.

Texas Creek

One of the most remote riding areas in Colorado, Texas Creek offers dirt bikers about 45 miles of scenic trails, most of which will suit beginners or intermediate-level riders. Exploring Texas Creek will reward you with stunning mountain views of the Sangre de Cristo range.

Texas Creek rarely gets snow, and the area is often open year-round. However, temperatures in this high desert region may climb up to 100 degrees, so check the weather forecast while you plan your trip.

To reach Texas Creek, you’ll need to ride about 25 miles west from Canon City or about 30 miles east from Salida.

North Divide Trail System

Off-roading aficionados will enjoy the rugged, twisting trails and loops of the North Divide Trail System. This riding area offers trails of varying difficulty, from beginner-friendly routes to trails challenging enough for intermediate to experienced riders.

You can usually access the trail system year-round, but make sure to check the terrain conditions during the winter.

If you’re starting from Colorado Springs, ride about 25 miles up north on Highway 24, turn right to Manchester Creek Road, then to Cedar Mountain Road, and finally to Phantom Creek Road.
