Stunning terrain and road for motorcycle touring in Moab, Utah

If you’re planning a visit to Moab, Utah, you’ll be blown away by all of the natural beauty throughout the city. Moab is home to two beautiful national parks: Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. It’s best known for its stunning red rock landscapes and desert oasis atmosphere.

Moab offers the perfect attractions for a motorcycle trip. Read on to learn the stops you should hit during your Moab, Utah motorcycle tour.

Arches National Park

Arches National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in the U.S. This national park showcases Moab’s breathtaking natural elements like red rock landscapes, Native American rock art, sprawling canyons, and vast overlooks.

You can experience the best of Arches National Park right from your motorcycle. The park features 36 miles of roadway that weave throughout the landscape and lead up to some of the most stunning views in the park.

Here are some of the best places to stop as you drive through the park:

  • La Sal Mountains Viewpoint
  • Courthouse Towers Viewpoint
  • Balanced Rock
  • Delicate Arch Viewpoint
  • Windows District
  • Fiery Furnace Viewpoint
  • Skyline Arch
  • Exit Path

You should be able to drive through the park and stop at each of these viewpoints within three hours. However, we highly recommend dedicating an entire day to experiencing the park.

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands is also a very driveable national park within Moab. However, you may want to spend more than a few hours riding your motorcycle through this park.

Canyonlands National Park is divided into four districts, and you’ll want to dedicate one day to each section. These districts include:

  • Island in the Sky
  • Needles
  • The Maze
  • The River

If you only have one day, we recommend riding through the Island in the Sky District.

The Island in the Sky District features a 34-mile loop that takes you through several breathtaking overlooks. You’ll be able to gaze into valleys 1,000 feet below the roadway and view stunning panoramic views of steep cliffs and drop-offs. This district is also easily accessible from Moab and Arches National Park.

Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway

Aside from its national parks, Moab also features numerous scenic landscapes you can experience from your motorcycle. One of the city’s most beautiful drives is the Upper Colorado Scenic Byway.

This scenic byway, also known as State Route 128, spans just over 44 miles through Utah. The route also forms a portion of the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway, which is a National Scenic Byway.

Scenic Byway 128 begins on the north side of Moab and takes you past the following attractions:

  • Grandstaff Hiking Trail
  • Big Bend Bouldering Area
  • Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage
  • Castle Valley
  • Sylvester Trail
  • Fisher Towers Trail and Viewpoint
  • The site of the Historic Dewey Bridge

You can stop and stretch your leg at any of these attractions or simply admire their beauty from your motorcycle. (You may want to experience the Museum of Film and Western Heritage in person, however).

Dead Horse Mesa Scenic Byway — also known as Highway 313 — is another scenic route to add to your Moab, Utah motorcycle touring trip. This byway spans 22 miles, making it an easy there-and-back trip. It’s also an access road for the Island in the Sky of Canyonlands, allowing you to add it to your Canyonlands exploration.

  • Cliffline Viewpoint
  • Seven Mile Canyon
  • Merrimac Viewpoint
  • Big Mesa View Area
