History of the Cassoday Bike Run
Kansas motorcyclists have participated in Cassoday Bike Runs for over 30 years, since 1991. These bike runs have a fun history highlighting Cassoday’s small-town generosity.
In 1991, a few bikers from the Christian Bikers Association discovered that the ride through Flint Hills to Cassoday Cafe was the perfect way to spend a Sunday together. They asked Norma, the cafe owner, if she would be willing to stay open a few extra hours on Sunday afternoons so the bikers in this group could grab a bite to eat after their rides. Stopping for lunch would give the riders time to rest before returning home.
Norma offered to make a deal with the group: if they could get at least 30 riders to stop at the cafe, she’d be happy to stay open extra long to accommodate them. The group decided to make the ride on the first Sunday of every month, and the rest is history.
Now, bikers participate in this ride eight Sundays a year. More than 7,000 motorcyclists experience the Cassoday Bike Run on the summer Sundays with the best weather. Food vendors line the streets of Cassoday to accommodate these large group events, and the ride has drawn in bikers from out of state as well.
