Scenic and Historic Byways
There are nine scenic and three historic byways in Kansas. Each has its share of the open road and beautiful scenery, giving you a grand tour of the Sunflower State.
We love the byways because they flow with the prairies and cliffs. Scenic routes like the Native Stone Byway provide stunning views and a thrilling ride around fun curves. Historic areas like the 167-mile-long Frontier Military Historic Byway take you through quaint towns and battlefields from the mid-1800s.
Historic Route 66 is one of the most recognizable roads in America. This byway runs through part of Kansas and showcases the Midwest’s natural beauty and charm. You can ride across the Marsh Arch Bridge and witness the inspiration that led to movies like Pixar’s Cars.
U.S. Route 24
U.S. Route 24 allows you to travel faster than the scenic and historic byways but not as fast as the interstate. You can experience the best of Kansas, traveling through various communities and cultures on a more direct route.
Interstate 70
When imagining fun motorcycle rides in and around Wichita, KS, you probably don’t think of Interstate 70. However, I-70 allows you to travel through the entire state in a single day while enjoying an easy ride. You can start the 400-mile trip in Goodland and end in the bustling metropolis of Kansas City, riding through the heart of Kansas past plenty of gas stations, restaurants, and roadside attractions.

Your motorcycle trip through Kansas will lead you to many sights and attractions. There’s always something fun and relaxing if you need a break. When it comes time to drop the kickstand, here are two of our favorite off-road activities and places to visit.
Kansas Motorcycle Museum
We recommend stopping by the Kansas Motorcycle Museum if your motorcycle ride brings you through Marquette, KS. This museum lets you walk through motorcycle history and see over 100 vintage and rare motorcycles, including a bike Elvis Presley owned. You can also experience the incredible legacy of Stan Engdahl, learn about his outstanding career and life work, and see his Harley-Davidson KR up close.
The Kansas Motorcycle Museum is a non-profit organization that offers free admissions, although you can donate any time. Doors open at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sundays, closing every day at 5 p.m.
Big Dog Motorcycles
If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, you’ve probably heard of Sheldon Coleman Jr. and Big Dog Motorcycles. Big Dog makes some of the most iconic motorcycles in the country, and it all started in Wichita. You can visit the garage where Coleman Jr. modified his first Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Big Dog Motorcycles is a popular attraction for bike lovers. On weekdays, stop by between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to tour the garage and buy souvenirs.
