The Gallatin River Canyon Route

While many regions across America offer bikers the chance to let loose and enjoy the open road, few can rival the Gallatin River Canyon route headed south toward Yellowstone National Park. It’s not hard to see why! You’ll take your motorcycle along exciting, winding roads with spectacular views around every corner.

From Bozeman, MT, you can get on U.S. Route 191 and ride south toward Gallatin Gateway. You’ll know you’re heading in the right direction when you see signs for Big Sky and Yellowstone. It won’t take long (about 10 miles) before you enter Gallatin Canyon.

As far as riding goes, a gentle winding road with smooth pavement makes for a leisurely ride through this beautiful landscape. The Gallatin River Canyon ride takes you on a thrilling trip around constant, windy curves for about 20 miles. Eventually, you’ll reach Big Sky and can either follow State Route 64 into town or Rt. 191 down to West Yellowstone and the national park.

Canyon Wildlife and Vistas

When you start, you’ll find the road is well-maintained and curvy. Fantastic views will greet you at every turn, so be sure to slow down and give yourself ample opportunity to soak it all in. The Gallatin River Canyon motorcycle ride isn’t about the destination but the journey.

You’ll have plenty to see as you wind through the canyon. Keep a sharp eye out for deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and other wildlife that may wander near the road. On top of that, Montana’s epic mountain views and jaw-dropping vistas make for some of the best photo ops.

The ride itself is incredible, but you don’t want to feel chained to your motorcycle. Feel free to stop at numerous pull-offs and roadside attractions to stretch your legs, grab a bite to eat, or take in the scenery a little longer. You can also visit the small towns that dot your route and get a taste of the local culture.
