McKenzie River Highway
Starting in Springfield, OR, head east on OR-126. Follow it 68 miles before merging onto US-20 E 29 miles to reach Sisters. The route offers several fun twists and turns to navigate, as well as views of covered bridges, waterfalls, lakes, Black Butte, and more.
Although the ride only takes less than two hours, you’ll want to plan a few stops for pictures of the waterfalls or take a hike up Black Butte.
Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway
Starting in Roseburg, take OR-138 east to Diamond Lake and Mount Thielsen. The lake area offers several campgrounds with spectacular views of the mountain. Although the route is only 80 miles, the road offers several twists and turns, as well as several places to stop for pictures. Don’t miss the waterfalls, including Fern Falls, Fall Creek Falls, Watson Falls, and Clearwater Falls.
On the west side of Diamond Lake is Mt. Bailey, another popular hiking destination. The area offers skiing and snowmobiling during the winter.
Highway 101
You can’t get much more scenic for motorcycle rides on the southwest Oregon coast than Highway 101. Take the highway from Depoe Bay to Tillamook for a 60-mile ride offering over an hour’s worth of beachside landmarks, bridges, dunes, forests, and oceanfront cliff sides.
The highway curves inland past Neskowin as you head north to Tillamook. While in Tillamook, don’t miss a chance to visit the dairy company factory for a tour and to sample ice cream and cheese. The city also offers museums, breweries, restaurants, and more before you hit the road again.
Medford to Bend
This 215-mile route takes you from Medford in southwest Oregon to Bend in the middle of the state along parts of two different scenic byways. Avoid 230 and stay on OR-62 to ride around the west side of Crater Lake as you make your way north from Medford. Once on US-97 N, take the exit for OR-58 W toward Eugene.
Turn right off OR-58 onto Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, then make a left in three miles to follow the byway up NF-46. Note that the road is closed between December and March. The byway merges into SW Century Dr. as you approach Bend.
Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway
The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway stretches from Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Your ride along the west edge of Crater Lake offers trailheads, overlooks, camping, and more.
The lake formed in a collapsed volcanic crater, and you can see Wizard Island at the west edge of the lake. Crater Lake is the only national park in Oregon and is the deepest lake in the U.S.
Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway
Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway encompasses Todd Lake, Hosmer Lake, Devil’s Lake, Elk Lake, Cultus Lake, and Mt. Bachelor. The best time to travel this section is between June and October.
The area offers natural attractions such as horseback riding, fishing, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more.
