If you continue down CR 133, you’ll get to the Needles Overlook, which offers an unsurpassed view of the Canyonlands National Park’s Needles District. From there, you can return to SR-211 via U.S. Route 191 to the Canyonlands National Park. You could plan to stay overnight in Monticello.

Monument Valley

Monument Valley, with its otherworldly desert landscape and jaw-dropping sandstone formations, is an iconic attraction of the American Southwest. Part of the Navajo Nation territory, it is located at the border between Utah and Arizona, about 320 miles north of Phoenix.

Starting from the visitor center, you’ll view a magnificent panorama that has inspired countless artists and filmmakers. Note the famous West and East Mitten Buttes and the huge Merrick Butte.

The 17-mile Valley Drive, which runs through the park, is a dirt road that has some rough spots but should be doable for careful riders, provided it’s dry. The route abounds with sandstone monuments and features stops where you can view and purchase authentic Navajo crafts.

If you plan to get off your bike and explore on foot, remember that hiking in most of Monument Valley is restricted to tours with a Navajo guide.
