Motorcycle Rides in Tulsa, OK That You’ll Love
What better way is there to enjoy the wide-open roads of Tulsa, OK, than on a motorcycle? Bikers from all over the country stop in the area to take in the all-American views in this gorgeous South Central city. Who said that Oklahoma was a so-called “flyover” state? These four rides are worth visiting the Sooner State all on their own—though be advised that some of them take some getting to.
The Talimena National Scenic Byway
You know a roadway is something special when the U.S. Department of Transportation denotes it as an official National Scenic Highway. Such is the case of the Talimena National Scenic Byway, a 54-mile route spanning most of southeastern Oklahoma. You’ll be in for a treat no matter what time of year you visit: come in the fall and enjoy the colorful foliage, or stop by in the spring and watch the winter wonderland come to life before your eyes. Plenty of spectacular pit stops along the way, including the Cedar Lake Recreation Area, the Talimena State Park, and the Ouachita National Forest, will make this Talimena National Scenic Byway bike ride one to remember for years.
The Mountain Gateway Scenic Byway
If you’re coming to Oklahoma from Arkansas, you won’t find a more scenic route than the Mountain Gateway Scenic Byway. This long, winding road extends from Oklahoma to the Arkansas state line. It features incredible panoramic views, including the Ouachita Mountains and the Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area, a more than 26,000-acre expanse of land steeped in Midwest history. The Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area also features plenty of room for campers and comes complete with tables, fire rings, grills, and a paved parking area for your bike.
Greenleaf State Park
If you’re looking for a family-friendly bike excursion, look no further than Greenleaf State Park, about one hour outside Tulsa. The park has cabins, camping grounds, and plenty of family-friendly activities. Still, the road from the city center to the park — OK-351, better known as the Muskogee Turnpike — offers an even bigger visual feast. The PG-rated activities will make you a hit with the wife and kids, who feel left out most of the time while you’re on your bike.
Route 66
As the old song goes, “Get your kicks on Route 66.” Few roads scream “Americana” louder than Route 66, the proverbial “Mother Road” stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles. The portion of the road that runs through Oklahoma stops in historic Arcadia, which features many landmarks that are perfect for those Instagram-able moments from your motorcycle ride. Don’t forget to snap a picture at the Historic Round Barn before stopping at the place where Paul McCartney of The Beatles asked for directions!
