Music City Thunder – Motorcycle Rides Near Nashville, TN

As the country music capital of the world, Nashville is known for more than just this genre of music. The city also has a thriving rock, bluegrass, R&B, and pop scene. And, just like the music scene in Nashville, the motorcycle community has more depth than meets the eye.

If you’ve never explored Nashville on a bike, you’re about to discover a whole new world. In this article, we’ll share our top 6 routes.

1. Cherohala Skyway

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to ride among the clouds? Imagine the feeling you get when you’re on an airplane, and you look out the window to see that you’re flying above a blanket of white fluffy clouds. Well, now you can recreate this experience on a bike!

This 51-mile route takes you along the Tellico Plains at an elevation of 5,400 feet. Our only caution here is to watch out for the challenging curves and do the ride during daylight only.

2. The Natchez Trace

This well-traveled route is known for its scenery. If you’ve got time to spare, this 444-mile route is filled with history, and it spans from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee. Visit ghost towns and Civil War battle sites scattered along the way.

The only catch here is that you might also encounter a large population of cyclists (the non-motor variety) and troopers with an itchy ticket-writing finger. Basically, ride safely, but you already knew that.

3. Ashland City

If you’re looking for a relatively easy ride without a lot of elevation changes or sweeping curves, then the Ashland City route will give you the best bang for your buck. The countryside transports you to another place, with tons of greenery and pastures.

Make sure you plan accordingly, though. Gas stations are few and far between in these parts.

4. The Tail of the Dragon

For a quick trip that leaves you feeling exhilarated, check out Tail of the Dragon. This 11-mile route is packed with 318 curves that will keep you on your toes. The road runs along the border that divides Tennessee from North Carolina, and you’ll even get a glimpse or two of the Great Smoky Mountains. Ready to slay the dragon? 5. Highway 100 W

This state route can get you to the start of the Natchez Trace Route, so if you do this ride, it’s like you’re getting two amazing trips bundled into one. We recommend taking Hwy 100 to Linden, and then head toward Columbia to take in the historic town square.

If you want to see the town of Franklin, keep going on Hwy 412 until you hit Hwy 431 and make a left. Here, you’ll come face-to-face with several Civil War sites loaded with paraphernalia and stories.

6. Cumberland Plateau Tour

If you’re on the outskirts of Nashville, head on over to Center Hill Lake. This body of water is nothing short of stunning to behold. As you traverse the route, you’ll also be confronted with a spectacular array of forests, deep, sprawling valleys, and impressive ridges.

We recommend this route for more experienced riders due to its challenging and curvy terrain. There are also a lot of switchbacks, which can make the journey fun, but the sharp turns aren’t for the faint of heart.
