Scenery in Sacramento: Exploring Scenic Routes by Motorcycle

There’s a lot of scenery in Sacramento to see, especially if you’re on a motorcycle. You can ride the Placerville Loop, the Salmon Falls Road, and countless other routes. One of the best options for scenery in Sacramento is the Sacramento Delta Loop, which will take you down through the Sacramento River Delta, also known as the California Delta.

The California Delta

Northern California motorcycle riding includes a lot of beautiful scenery in Sacramento, especially around the waterways of the California Delta. This is the name for the rivers and canals that flow from the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers, a system of interconnected waterways that makes for some interesting motorcycle rides.

You can see a lot of the California Delta by riding down State Route 160, which will give you the opportunity to explore the many pleasant little towns along the way. Alternatively, you can ride the Sacramento Delta Loop, which will take you down to Rio Vista and then back to Sacramento.

The Sacramento Delta Loop

The Sacramento Delta Loop boasts some of the finest scenery in Sacramento and the surrounding area, taking you right along the Sacramento River, the Elk Slough, and the Sutter Slough as you explore the waterways of the delta.

Vehicles are uncommon along large sections of this loop, making it possible for two motorcyclists to ride side-by-side for part of the trip. There’s more than one way to make this loop along the many little roads that crisscross the delta, but the basic idea is to ride along the Sacramento River through the towns of Freeport, Clarksburg, Courtland, Walnut Grove, and Isleton to Rio Vista, and then back up from Rio Vista toward Sacramento again.

Mosquito Ridge Road

Mosquito Ridge Road in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is a rider’s dream. With 600 curves over 36 miles, it offers breathtaking views and a thrilling ride. Starting from the town of Forest Hill, the road takes you deep into the mountains, past the impressive Auburn Ravine Bridge, and eventually to the beautiful French Meadows Reservoir. It’s a journey full of twists, turns, and stunning scenery, perfect for a quick ride or a full day of exploration.

Riding a motorcycle is a great way to spend your free time, but even the best rides can be cut short by an accident. The best way to avoid an unexpected conclusion to your travels around the scenery in Sacramento is by following California’s motorcycle laws. Wear appropriate protective gear, avoid distractions, and steer clear of risky behaviors that can increase the likelihood of an accident.
